The Hellenic National Centre of Theatre and Dance was founded in 2007 as an institution supervised by the Hellenic Ministry of Culture. The aim of the HNCTD, according to its founding law, is the implementation of a national planning policy for theatre and dance, as well as the support of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Tourism in defining such a policy.
As part of these goals, the HNCTD has undertaken:
To recommend to the Greek Ministry of Culture and Tourism a policy for our National Theatres.
To plan a multi-faceted regional policy for the theatre and to reform the institution of the Municipal Regional Theatres.
To improve the institution of subsidizing the theatre and dance, with clear and unimpeachable criteria of the selection of the theatre and dance groups.
To supervise and coordinate those Associations, Societies and Foundations that are financially supported by the government and contribute to the development of the art of theatre and dance.
To promote the Greek theatre and dance to the international scene and assist its presence to renowned festivals, as well as to participate in well known European and international institutions.
Mainly, however, the HNCTD aims to harmonize all these parameters and utilize all the factors that are instrumental for the development of the art of theatre and dance in Greece within the context of a unified strategy for the performing arts. A strategy that will allow us, on the one hand, to show the vast wealth of our theatrical culture both historical and contemporary and, on the other, to demonstrate the strong relation of theatre and dance with the development of modern Greek society. |
